Psychiatrist
A medical doctor with special training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional illnesses. Like other doctors, psychiatrists prescribe medications and provide ongoing monitoring of the effectiveness of the medications prescribed.
Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist
A medical doctor with advanced special training in the diagnosis and treatment of emotional and behavioral problems in children. Child/Adolescent psychiatrists prescribe medications and provide ongoing monitoring of the effectiveness of the medications prescribed.
Psychologist
A counselor with an advanced degree from an accredited graduate program in psychology and two or more years of supervised work experience prior to licensure. Psychologists are trained to administer and interpret written psychological testing and to diagnose and provide individual and group therapy.
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
A counselor with a masters degree in an accredited graduate program and two years supervised work experience prior to licensure. Clinical social workers are trained to make diagnoses and provide individual and group therapy.
Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor
A counselor with specific clinical training in alcohol and drug abuse. Trained and licensed to diagnose and provide individual and group counseling in substance abuse.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse/ Clinical Nurse Specialist
A registered nurse with a master’s degree and advanced training from a graduate program. An APRN or CNS is trained to diagnose and provide individual and group counseling and to prescribe medications.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
A counselor with a master’s degree from an accredited program and two or more years of supervised work experience. Trained to work primarily with individuals, couples and families to make diagnosis and provide individual and group counseling.
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
A LPCC is a licensed counselor who has a doctoral degree in counseling and/or related field. A LPCC is trained to diagnose and provide individual and/or group therapy.
